At Sporthorse Apothecary, we love simplicity.
It’s how we designed our GI formula, Gut Tonic. With Gut Tonic, your horse gets all-natural protection from the 5 most common causes of equine gastric ulcers—in one top shelf botanical mixture.
When you give your horse Gut Tonic anytime his GI tract will see increased stress, you give him fast-acting and soothing protection from over 40 herbs and botanicals. And the benefits continue as he digests the mixture.
Even better: You can protect your horse with Gut Tonic in 5 minutes or less. Read on to find out how.
1. Step #1: Mix one scoop of Gut Tonic powder with about 100mL of water in the included mixing jar.
Why Powder, you ask?
It’s because the powdering of herbs is one of the most powerful and versatile ways to prepare and administer them.
That’s why we chose to powder the mixture of 41 herbs and botanicals in Gut Tonic.
When powdered, all the constituents of each herb are ingested and worked on by the digestive tract since powdering reduces all plant parts, both thin and thick, to a fine, easily and uniformly extractable medium.
When mixed with water, it’s like the sleeping dried herbs spring to life! When you give it to your horse, Gut Tonic starts by rapidly mixing with the contents of your horse’s stomach to flash-alkalize the environment and form a soothing gel-like mixture as the dried emollient botanicals fully rehydrate.
By stabilizing and neutralizing the contents of his stomach, this action especially benefits your horse when he’s being ridden, as this is when he’s most at risk of acid splashing onto the unprotected upper region of his stomach.
So go ahead, release the magic of Gut Tonic!
Step #2: Shake the mixture vigorously for about a minute.
Next comes the fun part, are you ready?
Shake the mixture in the provided mixing jar until it’s mixed thoroughly, for a single dose, usually about a minute. When you’ve got it right, the reconstituted Gut Tonic will be a thick syrupy texture.
Don’t worry if it’s too runny or too thick your first few times mixing the Gut Tonic up. The benefits of the powder aren’t affected by the amount of water it’s mixed with.
It just makes application easier if you get it right!
We suggest you allow the Gut Tonic to stand for just a moment after mixing to allow the hydration of particularly dry herbs to fully begin. Many riders mix the Gut Tonic before they bring their horse to the saddling area, letting it stand until just before tacking up.
After you’ve let the magic marinate, you’re ready to move on to the final step!
Step #3: Serve the Gut Tonic to your horse.
Gut Tonic is a rich and naturally sweet, earthy flavor that horses love. (We’ve got TONS of picky-eaters in our fan club!)
You can administer Gut Tonic directly in your horse’s mouth.
You’ll notice your horse start to look forward to the relief he feels from Gut Tonic once he's experienced it, and many horses actually start to nicker as though it's a treat!
Or, if you prefer, Gut Tonic may be reconstituted and top-dressed on a small serving of soaked hay pellets. This method is especially recommended for horses showing noticeable signs of GI discomfort.
That’s it! You’re ready to head out knowing your horse is protected--in 5 minutes or less.
